10 Questions to Ask Yourself on World Mental Health Day
10 Questions to Ask Yourself on World Mental Health Day
1.What is My Deepest Intention Today?
Buddha taught that intention drives everything. The power of setting clear intentions is like steering a ship—it shapes your thoughts, habits, and ultimately, your destiny. Are you moving through your day with intention, or letting it drift? Before starting your workday, set a simple intention such as “Today, I will bring positivity to every meeting” or “I will focus on deep listening during calls.”
Notice how this shifts your energy and interactions throughout the day.
“Change is to be greater than your environment, greater than the conditions in your world, and greater than the circumstances of your life.” — Joe Dispenza
2.Am I Moving My Body in a Way That Feels Good? ♀️♂️
Inspired by the Blue Zones lifestyle, remember that movement doesn’t have to be complicated. It’s not about hours in the gym, but rather finding joy in simple activities: walking, gardening, or dancing in the kitchen. Every step counts—taking 2,000 extra steps daily can lower your risk of chronic illness. What’s your favourite way to move?
3.D0 My Habits Align with My Values? ❤️
“From intention springs the deed, from the deed springs the habit…” Reflect on your daily routines—are they supporting the person you want to become? The wee things are never the wee things. If you want to feel more love, peace, or creativity, what small habits can you shift today to align with those feelings?
4.What Story Am I Telling Myself Right Now?
When we feel stuck or overwhelmed, it’s often due to those pesky wee stories playing in our minds—stories of not being enough, of needing more to be happy or comparing ourselves to others. Thief of joy for sure! Challenge these stories with curiosity: What if they are just old patterns trying to protect you? How would you rewrite this narrative if you believed you were already enough- you were the superstar that everyone around you sees!
‘ Oh for the gift of god to see us to see ourselves as other’s see us – as oor Rabbie Burns would say!
5. How Do I Care for My Emotional Self?
In times of stress, do you reach for a quick fix—more food, social media, a glass of wine? These behaviours often mask a deeper need for connection, safety, or rest. Today, try replacing the quick fix with something that nourishes your emotional core: a walk in nature, a heart-to-heart call, or a simple moment of stillness.
6.What Are My Unmet Needs, and How Can I Meet Them Gently?
When we react strongly, it’s often a sign of an unmet need or a past wound that’s still raw. Instead of pushing these feelings away, pause and ask yourself: What is this feeling trying to tell me? Is there a way I can meet this need with love and patience?
7. Where Can I Bring More Joy into My Day?
Joy doesn’t have to wait for the weekend or a vacation—it can be found in wee cracker of the moments. Mary Oliver asked, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”
Joy might look like watching a sunset, reading a favourite poem, telling a colleague what you love about them. Add a short wee joy spot to your schedule—put it at the top of your ‘to do list’ a 5-minute walk outside embrace all the senses and leave the phone at home, playing your favourite song between tasks, or send a thank you email.
How we live our days is how we live our life.
“When you change your energy, you change your life.” — Joe Dispenza
8.How Am I Feeding My Mind and Body?
Just like the food you eat, the thoughts you consume shape your energy and mood. Let’s feeding our minds with positive beliefs and intentions. Are you nourishing your mind with kindness and curiosity, and your body with wholesome foods? How might you upgrade one wee choice today?
9.Am I Practicing Radical Forgiveness?
Holding onto blame—whether towards yourself or others—only deepens the groove of suffering. Forgiveness isn’t about dismissing pain; it’s about freeing yourself from it. As Dr. Edith Eger says, “The most important freedom is the freedom from your own mind.”
What would happen if you offered yourself and others a little more compassion today, gave yourself a break the way you do with those you love? You deserve all the love you shower others.
10.What Really Matters to My Heart Right Now? ❤️
Amidst our day to day, it’s easy to lose sight of what truly matters. Ask yourself: When do you feel most like yourself, without the need to impress or seek approval from the peanut gallery? Shut your eyes. What was the last thing that lit your heart up?
Is it during a quiet walk, a moment with a loved one, or when you’re creating something beautiful? Let your heart guide you—focus on what makes you feel at home in your life. Set the timer for 5 minutes, start writing and see what comes. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by deadlines, pause and ask, “What is the bigger picture here? How does this work contribute to my values?” It can be as simple as remembering how your work helps others or aligns with your passion.
Let this focus guide you through the busyness.
